Built by people who have stood on the quay at 3am.
Roptin Shipping (UK) Limited started as a two-person husbandry desk covering a single berth. Eighteen years on, we run agency operations at twelve UK ports — without losing the habit of picking up the phone ourselves.
Agency work is a promise kept at odd hours.
Roptin Shipping was founded on a simple premise: a ship agent should be reachable the moment a vessel needs one, not the moment it's convenient. That principle set the pace for everything that followed — from our first husbandry contract in Southampton to the national coverage we operate today.
We grew port by port, relationship by relationship — with harbour masters who know our name, stevedoring firms who take our call first, and customs contacts who trust our paperwork without a second read. That local standing is not something a company can buy; it is built one accurate port call at a time.
Today, Roptin coordinates husbandry, cargo operations, customs clearance and inland logistics for owners, operators and charterers across the UK coast — still answering the duty phone ourselves.
Eighteen years, plotted.
First husbandry desk opens in Southampton
Roptin begins operating as a single-port husbandry agent, handling crew changes and stores for coastal traders.
Customs & compliance desk established
In-house customs specialists join the team, cutting clearance times for regular callers by more than half.
Coverage extends to six UK ports
Felixstowe, Tilbury, Liverpool and Immingham join Southampton and London Gateway on the network map.
24/7 duty desk launched
A dedicated out-of-hours rota means every port call, regardless of tide, has a live agent on the line.
Twelve ports, one national network
Roptin now covers major UK ports coast to coast, with more than 1,900 port calls handled to date.
What every port call is measured against.
Availability
A duty agent answers the phone at any hour — not an answering service, not a rota gap.
Accuracy
Paperwork submitted right the first time — every delay we prevent is a cost we save you.
Accountability
One named agent per call, so you always know exactly who is handling your vessel.
